It’s been a busy July 2025 for ULSS3 Serenissima of Venice: from the signing of agreements, to new construction sites and machinery, to prevention and first aid training activities directly at the beach as part of the annual “Safe Holidays” campaign activities. “These are all signs that we are paying attention and demonstrating that even on the issue of the health proposal, many concrete steps are being taken in Venice and the other territories of ULSS3. Every day, we collaborate across institutions to line up concrete steps for the benefit of those who inhabit the area, whether residents or not“, explained General Manager Edgardo Contato.
Particularly relevant is theagreement that guarantees free primary care medical service for all out-of-town students living in Venice at the former Gb Giustinian Hospital facility starting in September this year. “This isan important addition to what has been done since the pandemic to date,” adds the executive , “the list of initiatives built through dialogue with entities in the area is very long: to look back and see all that has been done, with the active collaboration of local institutions, even by small steps, is a good look.

Theagreement between ULSS3, ESU – Azienda regionale per il diritto allo Studio Universitario, Università Ca’ Foscari and Università Iuav, Accademia di Belle Arti, Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello and IUSVE was signed last July 3 and provides that from September Italian and foreign students and students, including those not resident in the area of reference, will be able to have access to a primary medical care service in Venice. The healthcare offering takes off from the project signed by the same parties as early as 2024 on the welfare of the student population, which had already made active the counter “Consumption and Addiction: preventive counseling” and forms of collaboration with the Mental Health Center.
What does the assistance consist of? A doctor will be available in a dedicated outpatient clinic at District 1 former Gb Giustinian Hospital (sestiere Dorsoduro 1454) three times a week (Monday-Wednesday-Friday). Just being a registered student will be enough to access services such as doctor visits and prescriptions, targeting a potential pool of 25,136 young people far from home, with the goal of relieving emergency rooms. For all the entities involved, this is an initiative that will be able to put in place a virtuous collaboration between the world of education and health care, which makes the city of Venice can welcoming and youth-friendly, integrating physical and psychological health.

Also in July , work began on the renovation and expansion of the ULSS3 garrison in Martellago to build a new Community House here using PNRR funds, with a construction site expected to be closed by early 2026. Despite the work, the services provided in the district office, although remodeled, will not be suspended, guaranteeing care in some temporary locations for Child Neuropsychiatry, which will be moved to the Community House in Noale, and the Accompaniment to Birth (CAN) classes and the 0-1 Space dedicated to mothers with babies up to 12 months old, which will find a place in the Municipal Gymnasium in Victory Square. While Geriatrics will be accessible at the Mirano Social Health District and AVIS donations will be available at the Civic Center in Olmo di Martellago.
Meanwhile, the Cardiology Department of the Civil Hospital of Venice also received in July, with contributions from the associations “St. James Benefica” and “El Todaro Benefico,” a bed-ergometer, an instrument designed for performing stress echocardiography examinations, which accurately measures cardiac response under conditions of physical stress. What is special about this instrument is that Allows the examination to be performed with the patient in a semi-supine position, ensuring maximum comfort for the patient by tilting the crib up to 30 degrees to the left while the patient is pedaling, along with a’High quality of diagnostic images. The purchase of the equipment, enabled by the approximately €10,000 donated, is the result of the generosity of the two historic Venetian volunteer organizations. “These associations should be thanked for what they do – General Manager Edgardo Contato commented. – their continuous and timely action demonstrates that even in the Venice of the present, solidarity is still tangible, effective and deeply human“.

Prevention came directly to the beach: on Saturday, July 12 (Sottomaria) and Saturday, July 26 (Isola Verde) in Chioggia, an activity was held to encourage people to take care of their eye health from the risks of excessive exposure to the sun’s rays. The initiative, titled “Under the Sun with Protected Eyes” as part of the “Safe Holidays” program, served to bring a mobile clinic to the vicinity of the shoreline, thanks to a fully equipped camper, which with the staff of the Ophthalmology Department of the local presidio carried out activities to check for possible eye damage and training on the risks of excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays.
Also near the sea, two first aid courses were instead held at Venice Lido in the Venice Beaches establishments to ensure safety in case of emergencies while on the beach. The goal was to disseminate as much as possible the basic knowledge to apply lifesaving techniques by learning them directly from Suem118 operators with the collaboration of beach establishment managers, an activity that took place on July 21 and 29. “We are convinced that a safe vacation also passes through the attention of citizens ,” explained District Director Dr. Mauro Zulian, ” in addition to the commitment of health workers, whose courses addressed the topics of resuscitation and airway disobstruction especially for rescuing children.
